Dear Self-proclaimed WoW Badasses

Maybe I need to stop reading the forums.  Every now and then, a post makes me angry.  But in the past, my frustrations have slowly vanished until I was calm enough to say 'screw it' and not write to you in a fit of temper.

This time?

I am pissed. )

I know I shouldn't take things I read on the internet to heart.  But every once in a while, something just makes my temper flare, and this is one of them.

Now Reading: Delusion in Death

Since I got my Kindle Fire in December, I have read maybe a half-dozen physical books. Those half-dozen were mainly new releases in series that I read, and the e-book wasn't available from the library yet.  When it comes to books I enjoy, patience is not a virtue of mine.

I reserved Delusion in Death by J.D. Robb as soon as the library had it 'On Order' in their system.  I picked it up Thursday afternoon, and I'm about a third of the way done.  Between work, WoW, and sleep there hasn't been much free time for reading.  I'm hoping to finish it by the end of the weekend, and will toss up a review when I can.

The Saga Continues

I gave up at Barnes & Noble, since it wasn't getting anywhere.  I decided to just eat the overage and download it at home.  But, it's still seems like it's not getting anywhere.  I know people were complaining on patch day about similar issues, so I'll just hold on to the hope that it'll finish someday.

At this rate, I may get to play by next Saturday.

And so it Begins

Since my laptop imploded last Tuesday, it's been a little rough.  I've had use of a friend's, which has helped.  Sadly, one of the main things I used my computer for wasn't available on the borrowed machine - World of Warcraft.  And since my laptop died the day Patch 5.0.4 was released, I haven't even been able to check out all the cool new stuff!

As of this moment, my new computer (desktop, thank you) is all set up at home.  I'm at my local Barnes & Noble, trying to download the WoW game client to my friend's laptop.  With any luck, I'll then be able to transfer the files to the new computer.

The download isn't going quite as fast as I'd like, but it's a hell of a lot better than doing it at home, where everything over 5 GB costs me $10 per GB.  I need to find a different internet service.  But, that's an issue for another time.

Here's hoping I'll be playing tonight.  Tomorrow at the latest.  I miss my WoW.

Huh?

When I read stuff like this, I firmly believe that this country has lost its collective mind.  theweek.com/article/flipbook/232568/sign-of-the-times

This is a THREE YEAR OLD CHILD.  How is this right?

Hunter's parents should not have to 'work on a compromise' with school officials.  The school officials need to get their heads out of their asses and realize just how stupid this really is.

Everybody Starts Somewhere

Note:  This entry was originally posted on September 26, 2011 on my now-defunct WordPress blog.  I'm putting it here more as a 'history/archive' deal.  Let's try this blogging thing again.

A few months ago, I decided to try my hand at blogging. As with most things I try, a lot of research was done. Blogging etiquette, what to do and what not to do, what to write about, how to attract readers, those kinds of things.

After a couple weeks of research, I spent many hours setting this site up to my satisfaction. I had what I thought were fantastic ideas for posts. Lots of them. I went ahead and tossed up a photo I found, figuring it was a good starting point. Ease into it, so to speak. I figured I could write a few quick things over the next several days, and then backdate the posts. Sounds easy, right?

But like everything else I’ve done in life, I spent more time second-guessing myself than I did doing any kind of writing or posting. How would people view my blog? Would they consider it just recycled material when I post links with comments? Would my entries come off as too short or too long? Would I be criticized for my views?

Would anybody even read the damn thing?

Days turned into weeks, and now it’s almost two months since my first “post”. Yesterday, I read Talker's Block (via Seth Godin's blog) and something clicked for me. It’s not as if I’d never heard ‘Do it your way’ or ‘Just do it’ before. Maybe I was finally in the right frame of mind to make it click. Who knows?

Sure I’d like for my blog to be read by many people. Of course I want to please those people, not scare them off. But you know what? First and foremost, I’m writing for ME. It’s something I want to do for myself. If others come to read and comment, follow and share, great! If not, I’m good with that, too.

So here is the first of what will be many posts to come. Honestly, the bottom line is that I only have to please myself. Everything else is a bonus.
